Step-by-step fix guide for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Look in the bottom-right taskbar for a Malwarebytes shield icon. If it's there, Malwarebytes is running — click it to open the interface. It may appear after clicking the "^" show hidden icons arrow.
Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), find any MBAMService, mbam.exe or Malwarebytes processes, and click End Task. Then try opening Malwarebytes again.
Malwarebytes uses GPU acceleration for its interface. Outdated GPU drivers can prevent the window from rendering. Update your NVIDIA, AMD or Intel GPU driver from the manufacturer website.
Right-click the Malwarebytes shortcut on your desktop or in Start → Run as administrator. If it opens this way, the issue is a permissions problem.
Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool from malwarebytes.com/support-tool. Run it and select Repair. This reinstalls core components without affecting your settings.
This is usually caused by a corrupted installation or a conflict with another security program. Run the Malwarebytes Support Tool and select Repair to fix corrupted files.
Right-click the system tray icon and select Open Malwarebytes. If the window appears off-screen, press Win+Shift+Arrow to move it back onto your display.
Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool. Select Clean → Restart. After restart, download a fresh copy of MBSetup.exe and install again. Your settings are preserved in cloud backup.
